Blessed is the Spot is a photography book based on a well known Baha'i prayer by Baha'u'llah, the Prophet-Founder of the Baha'i Faith. Many of the images are taken at Baha'i holy sites and places of worship throughout the world. The images were created by Navid Yavari, an award winning photographer in Atlanta, Georgia.
Navid Yavari’s photographs show a truly unique perspective on familiar territory that most Baha'i will recognize. These are not travel brochure snapshots. The photographs are each presented as unique works of fine art.
The photo on the front cover of Blessed is the Spot is an extreme close up of the Shrine of the Bab. The Shrine is illuminated against a pitch black sky. There are no trees, stars or moon to provide the viewer a perspective hint at the size of the dome shaped building. Only half of the dome is visible. The other half floats off of the cover, as if the frame of the camera was not large enough to capture all of the grandeur and majesty of the building. The image of the dome shape of the Shrine is only completed in the minds eye. The Shrine looks enormous. It is too large to capture all of it in one picture. It is not framed by any borders. It floats off of the page as if it will go on forever and ever.
Blessed is the Spot has 132 color pages in square format. The books dimensions were purposely limited to 9x9 inches to reflect the Baha'i symbolic number of nine. It is a coffee table book printed with soft covers.
Blessed is the Spot is primarily focused on fine art photography. There is very little text in the book, except for some small captions under each photograph explaining the titles and locations where the photos were taken. The book’s layout follows the prayer of "Blessed is the Spot." Each chapter is one of the “Places” as described by Baha'u'llah. For example, chapter one is “The Spot”, chapter two is the “The House”, chapter three is the “The Place” and so on. Each chapter features photographs that are relevant to that place. For example, the photographs in chapter 11, “The Sea”, are pictures of the ocean near Santa Cruz, California, close to Bosch Baha'i School.
