In this history of Baha'is of Kashan, Iran, the author traces a century and a half of conversion to the Babi movement and later the shaping of the early Baha'i community. Based on published and unpublished historical sources, local narratives, memoirs, Baha'i writings, and the author's own recollections and general knowledge of Kashan, his birthplace, this book offers an intimate and realistic picture of the social life and moral strength of the Baha'i community in the face of frequent persecution and economic hardship.

The author began researching and writing this book during the 1980s and continuing until nearly the end of his life in 2002. Born in Kashan in 1915 and educated in his hometown, and later in Hamadan and Tehran, Mousa Amanat witnessed the evolution of the Baha'i community in the early decades of the 20th century.
