Described as the “eighth wonder of the world” and a “magnificent floral jewel,” and visited by millions of people, the award-winning terraced gardens of the Bahá’í Faith in Haifa, Israel, and the gardens north of Haifa at Bahjí Akka, burial site of the Founder of the Bahá’í Faith, have a unique history spanning more than one hundred fifty years.

Beyond the gardens' obvious beauty and serenity lies a compelling story of love, selfless devotion, patience, fortitude and extreme sacrifice, even martyrdom. It is intertwined intimately and for all time with the lives of the central figures in the Bahá’í Faith and is deeply rooted in the Persian garden tradition.

Gardens of the Spirit captures that history using stunning photographs and archival images and drawing upon details from published histories, biographies, and memoirs, in addition to documents and official communications from the Bahá’í World Centre.

A fragrant and eloquent sharing of it's principles and history.
For all pilgrims of the past, 'Gardens of the Spirit' is a glorious remembrance of their days in the Holy Land. For those who have yet to attain pilgrimage, it is a preview of the glories to come.  For the lovers of beautiful flowers and gardens - 'Gardens of the Spirit' demonstrates with photographs and texts the exquisite planning of the Guardian and the great love Abdu'l-Baha and Baha'u'llah had for gardens. For those not acquainted with Baha'i Faith it is a fragrant and eloquent sharing of it's principles and history.

Wonderful Anita!

Inspiring read!
An inspiring read, this book masterfully combines historical accounts, Baha'i sacred writings, and beautiful photographs of the gardens to take the reader on a breathtaking journey of the Baha'i Holy Places in Haifa and Akka. It adorns my coffee table and has sparked interesting conversations. The book is an expression of the author's love for the Sacred and for the beauty of the natural world.

A Beautiful History
This book is as informative as it is lovely. The author has carefully researched the development of the gardens and added historic photographs. I now have a deeper appreciation for the love and care poured into the gardens by 'Abdu'l Baha, the Beloved Guardian, and now the House of Justice. A fascinating read, beautiful coffee table book, and, when displayed, a conversation started.
