The Promulgation of Universal Peace is a compilation of 140 talks and extemporaneous discourses given by 'Abdu'l-Bahá on the fundamental principles of the revelation and teachings of Bahá'u'lláh-principles that form the basis of the universal peace Bahá'u'lláh has promised "shall come." Among the multitude of subjects discussed are the coming of age of the human race, the oneness and continuity of the Manifestations of God, and the oneness of religion as a social force for establishing world order and peace. These talks were given during 'Abdu'l-Bahá's 1912 visit to the United States and Canada. They are a priceless resource for studying the language and the personal example of 'Abdu'l-Bahá.

In June of 1920, two gentlemen arrived in the Netherlands to hand deliver a communication from ‘Abdu’l-Bahá, then head of the Bahá’í Faith, to the Executive Committee of the Central Organization for a Durable Peace at The Hague. This book examines the contents of these two Tablets, the historical circumstances that shaped nineteenth-century peace movements, and the catastrophic impact of the First World War. During this time, ‘Abdu’l-Bahá was actively engaged in promoting a clear understanding of the Bahá’í perspective on peace. His example has continuing relevance for the state of the world and the discourse on peace in the twenty-first century.

What are the prospects for a world traumatized by terrorism, war, and gross human rights violations? The events of September 11, 2001 forever punctured any illusions that Americans are safe from the fanaticism and terrorism so depressingly familiar to residents of the Middle East and other troubled areas of the globe. Numerous wars, including in Iraq, but particularly in the underdeveloped areas of the world, such as Africa, claim countless lives annually and leave many others horribly injured and disabled.

"An excellent introduction. [The Baha'i Faith] offers a clear analysis of the religious and ethical values on which Baha'ism is based (such as all-embracing peace, world harmony, the important role of women, to mention a few)." -Annemarie Schimmel, past president, International Association for the History of Religions
